Encompassing archival material, artworks across so many mediums, and live performances – Edges of Ailey at the Whitney is an absolutely monumental show (and a masterpiece of curatorial gymnastics from Adrienne Edwards.)

Theatrical and macabre, Ding Shilun’s “Janus” at ICA Miami was a discomfiting delight. The works are a personal and psychic exploration with emphasis on interspecies networks.

In his new show at Andrew Kreps, He Xiangyu keenly employs the materiality of clay to question our relationship to the built environment. The exhibition features coil-built dwellings with only the narrowest of window openings, creating an ambiguous and slightly foreboding atmosphere.

Webster’s works at Dia Beacon are simultaneously intimate and vast. They implore visitors to encounter them with the body and the senses, and they are captivating to both.

Frasier here uses works from across her practice to build a pantheon of monuments to the vital histories, and future stories, of workers, women, and communities of color.

Dame Magdalene Odundo’s works, installed in captivating dialogue with the historical trimmings of Houghton Hall, bring a layer of complicating depth that revives the space and demands visitors take a closer look at the histories from which it is built.

With recent works hidden behind rows of bathroom stall doors, Hughmans is a delight to explore. The mode of display is playful, but with persistent depth, as it amplifies the metaphors explored by the works hidden behind the doors. At Lisson until 2 August 2024. Exceptional!

For his exhibition at 52 Walker, Arthur Jafa invokes the body’s personal, political, and industrial guises, interweaving images and objects to create a forceful and maximal space.
Central to the exhibition, spanning the entire length of the gallery, is a site-specific installation—a plexiglass structure that Jafa refers to as a “picture unit.”

Hot Light, Hard Light is an installation conceived of by Crowner in her Brooklyn studio, where the perception of the form, shadow, and color of the works shifts constantly throughout the day in conjunction with the movement of the sun.
Just as color is not a static element, Crowner’s works shift and morph according to their environment.
